Nintendo WiiNintendo's low-cost games console brings internet delivered television to the living room for the first time.

This is a huge leap forward for the delivery of video content over the internet because it breaks internet video content away from the computer screen. YouTube brought video to internet users and the BBC iPlayer capitalised on this introduction recently with their online player.

By combining the two people can enjoy the freedom of BBC's on demand programmes via the iPlayer while sitting back on a sofa with the family in the living room. The Nintendo Wii also features and incredibly user friendly interface that anyone can use making BBC's free video content instantly accessible.

In the near future this could mean additional video content accessed on televisions using the Wii. Both the ITV and Channel 4 are working with the BBC to hold all of their online video content in one place (the project is currently called Kangaroo). It's an interesting step because it bypasses all other technology and offers British television using equipment a large number of people already own.

On the BBC website Darren Waters discusses the reasons why the BBC iPlayer has come to Nintendo Wii before Sony or Microsoft's consoles, making for an interesting read.
